Name: Carausius Brief biography: Separatist in Britannia and Gaul during the reign of Diocletian. Nationality: Roman Occupation: Emperor Period of rule: 286-293 Date of death: 293 |
|
Carausius declared himself Emperor in 286, during the reign of Diocletian. He cannot truly be called a usurper or revolter, however, as he did acknowledge the authority of Diocletian and Maximian, and tried to associate himself as a third emperor. He was never recognised by Diocletian or Maximian, however, and was killed in 293 by Allectus, who succeeded him. |
