Description: Obverse: Head of Maximian, wearing radiate crown and beard, draped and cuirassed, facing r. Reverse: Emperor, in military attire, standing facing r., holding parazonium in l. and receiving Victory on globe in r. from Jupiter, standing facing l., holding sceptre in l.; B in field, between figures. Inscriptions: Obverse: IMP C M H MHXIMIHNVS HVG (Imperator Caesar Marcus Aurelius Maximian Augustus). Reverse: CONCORDIH MI-LITVM• (Harmony of the Soldiers). In Exergue: XXI• Bibliography: RIC V 607 var. Notes: According to RIC, the XXI• in the exergue of the reverse and B in the field of the reverse are mintmarks indicating Kyzikos. As opposed to RIC, this coin type have a variant legend on the obverse (VAL does not occur), the bust is cuirassed as well as draped, and the mintmark ends with a •. |
