Description: Obverse: Christ, bearded and nimbate, wearing tunic and kolobion, seated upon throne without back; holds Gospels in l. hand; star above cushion of throne, to either side. Reverse: Full-length figure of emperor wearing stemma, divitision and chlamys; holds in r. hand cross-topped sceptre, and in l. hand anexikakia; star to r. of emperor.

Notes: Overstruck on previous type of Theodore I (DOC IV.2.5a.1); undertype unusual in that the obverse (Virgin seated) is struck on the concave, while the reverse is struck on the convex.
