Son of the Emperor Nikephoros I and raised to rule with him in 803, Stavrakios was gravely wounded in the same battle in which his father died in 811, and though proclaimed emperor at Adrianople despite his brother-in-law Michael Rangabe having also claimed the throne, he was persuaded to abdicate and retire on 1st October 811. He died as a monk early the next year. |
