A ballistic galvanometer consists essentially of a coil suspended between the poles of a permanent magnet. When a current flows through it the coil swings and the motion is detected by the deflection of a light beam reflected from a small mirror mounted on it. The present instrument is unusual in having two coils mounted side-by-side (like a pair of spectacles) around two pole pieces of the magnet. There is a set of spare colis (P0265). The whole has a heavy brass case.
