Rectangular group portrait photograph of the wedding party of Magnus and Agnes Sampson, mounted and stamped.

Agnes Sampson was the wife of the educationist, biographer and Akan historian Magnus J Sampson. Sampson came from a prestigious Cape Coast family and was extremely well educated, attending schools and colleges both in West Africa and the UK. He became involved in local politics in the 1940s and even stood as a candidate in the 1954 election, though he lost. Throughout his life he published several key texts on the lives of the Akan peoples, including Gold Coast Men of Affairs and West African Leadership: Public Speeches delivered by the Honourable J.E. Caseley-Hayford.

Sister Evelyn Bellamy was a Methodist Missionary in Ghana and between 1914 and 1943, during which time she occupied the post of headmistress of Wesley Girls High School in Cape Coast. The Danford Collection is home to a large number of objects presented by Sister Evelyn Bellamy and some of her papers can be accesssed through the Cadbury Research Library.
