This Senufo mask has been carved in wood as a distorted image of a human face. The Senufo are famous for their wood carving and use masks in different rituals of the 'poro' society, as a means of preserving their traditions for younger generations. Although this mask has been crafted for sale to tourists, it is possibly modelled on a 'kpelie' mask (human face with projections to mirror human imperfections). It was collected in 1956 and was lent to the Danford Collection by J.Danford in 1964. It was purchased in 1975.
