Induction coils are used to generate electric sparks in air, and this instrument claims to produce sparks up to 6 inches long. The inner coil is connected to a battery via a contact breaker. When a current flows it pulls on the iron rod attached to the contact and this breaks the current; the action is that of a buzzer. The varying current in this coil induces large voltages in the outer coils and these voltages produce the spark.
There is a wooden carrying case with detailed instructions printed in the lid.
