Philip was the son of the Emperor Philip I (Philip the Arab) and Otacilia Severa. He was raised to be co-emperor alongside his father in 247, but after his father's death in battle against the usurper Trajan Decius, Philip II was murdered in his mother's arms by the Praetorian guard. |
