Name:  Zenobia
Brief biography:  Widow of Odaenathus and regent for Vaballathus.
Nationality:  Palmyrene
Occupation:  Queen
Date of birth:  240
Period of rule:  267-272

Zenobia was the wife of the King of Palmyra, Odaenathus. When Odaenathus died in 267, Zenobia took the reigns of government for their son, Vaballathus. During her regency, Zenobia incorporated Egypt into the Palmyrene kingdom, but despite being notionally a sort of Roman client state, subservient to Rome, she eventually had to face the armies of the Emperor Aurelian. Zenobia declared herself Empress in 272, but was defeated and captured by Aurelian and taken to Rome to be paraded in a triumph. What happened to her thereafter is unknown.
